چکیده

The current mainstream, based on the Flash technology, is expected to be the reference technology also for the next few years. Nevertheless Flash has technological and physical constraints that make more difficult their further scaling. In this contest there is the industrial interest for alternative technologies that exploit new materials and concepts to go beyond the Flash technology, to allow better scaling, and to enlarge the memory performance. The main emerging nonvolatile memory technologies based on inorganic material, like ferroelectric memory (FeRAM), magnetoresistive memory (MRAM) or phase change memory (PCM) and the main innovative concepts based on organic material like ferroelectric or conductance switching polymer will therefore be analysed. We will then focus the attention on PCM technology as one of the best candidate as next-decade non-volatile memory technology, covering the main characteristics and presenting the latest development results. r 2004 Elsevier Ltd. Modeling and Leveraging Emerging Non-Volatile Memories for Future Computer Designs

Many new types of non-volatile memory technologies are now evolving. For example, emerging non-volatile memories such as STTRAM, PCRAM, and ReRAM show their attractive properties of high access performance and low access energy. In this work, we aim to facilitate these emerging non-volatile memory technologies in designing future high-performance and low-power computer systems. We start this wo...

Non-Volatile Memory: A review of past and present concepts and applications

The evolution of non-volatile memory (NVM) has been at a very fast pace in the past five decades. Many new concepts have been introduced, yet only some of them reached the market. Ongoing studies focus on the search for cheaper and faster memory. In this paper, the basic physical and operating principles, and challenges and opportunities of three NVM technologies (EPROM, Flash, and Memristor) w...

Non-Volatile Memory: Emerging Technologies And Their Impacts on Memory Systems

For almost 30 years, computer memory systems have been essentially the same: volatile, high speed memory technologies like SRAM and DRAM used for cache and main memory; magnetic disks for high-end data storage; and persistent, low speed ash memory for storage with low capacity/low energy consumption requirements such as embedded/mobile devices. Today we watch the emergence of new non-volatile m...
